2 Injured in School Bus and Car Collision on Route 571
No passengers present on bus at time of early Tuesday morning crash
A school bus and car collision on Route 571 early Tuesday morning sent two to area hospitals with injuries, police said.
A 2012 Starcraft school bus operated by Hartnett Transit Services was making a left turn on to Route 571 westbound from Etty Court when it collided with an eastbound 2001 Audi A4 at about 5:41 a.m., said Manchester police Capt. Lisa Parker in a statement.
No passengers were present on the school bus at the time of the crash, Parker said.
The bus was not contracted by Manchester schools at the time of the crash, according to the township's Board of Education.
Both the driver of the bus, Charlayne Rooney, 51, of Manchester, and Audi, Lance Rizzuto, 26, of Jackson, were properly restrained at the time of the crash, Parker said.
Rooney was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River with a complaint of back pain, and Rizzuto was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with non-life-threatening injuries to his arms and legs, the captain said.
Patrolman Ian Bole of the police department's Traffic Safety Section is investigating the crash, Parker said.
Also assisting at the scene were the Manchester and Ridgeway volunteer fire departments, and MONOC and Quality Medical Transport paramedics, according to Parker.
