911 Call Results In Aggravated Assault Charges
Fifty-year-old man has altercation with two township police officers
Manchester Township police arrested a 50-year-old man just after midnight on Sunday for aggravated assault on a police officer, among other charges.
At approximately 12:20 a.m., Officers Patrick P. Cervenak and Adam Guker were dispatched to Petunia Lane in the Whiting section for a 911 call received from the home, according to a press release.
Upon arrival, John Kerwin, Millburn, was highly agitated and dressed in underwear and a T-shirt.

Kerwin slammed open the front door and charged down the driveway at Cervenak yelling profanities, according to the report. Kerwin then grabbed Cervenak’s shoulder microphone pulling it off of the officer’s uniform. Kerwin proceeded to throw the portable radio microphone at Cervenak striking the officer in the arm.
A physical altercation then took place in the driveway of the residence before Cervenak and Guker took Kerwin into custody after utilizing oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, the report states.

In addition to aggravated assault on a police officer, Kerwin was charged with making a false 911 call, obstruction of justice and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $10,000.00 and Kerwin was later released on ROR (Released on Recognizance).
