After Sandy, Manchester Gave Needy Families A "Christmas"
Kevin's Kids comes to help
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Kevin's Kids of Manchester helped put together a "Christmas" for 410 children and their families.
Even after Sandy hit, Santa Claus came to visit as needy children received new bicycles and received new clothing, among other things, according to the organizer, Kevin Burger of Kevin's Kids.
The contributions came from students, our staff, seniors, local businesses, police, friends, neighbors and even some anonymous donors who just wanted to help, Burger said.
Burger said the drive started a few months ago, with a bit of apprehension. The challenge of a slow economy became even greater with the arrival of Super Storm Sandy, he said.
"From that day on, my phone never stopped ringing with heartbreaking stories of families in need," he said. "I will admit that many times I thought could we help as many children as we did in previous years?"
"It is with a great deal of pride that I offer this message of thanks to all of my generous and caring friends in Manchester," said Berger. "Manchester is truly a special place and our most successful Kevin’s Kids Christmas Drive is just one example of that spirit."
