UPDATE: Police Identify Whiting Woman Killed in Tuesday Route 70 Crash

Police late Tuesday night identified the township woman who was killed in a head-on collision on Route 70 earlier that afternoon.
The collision, which occurred at 4:50 p.m. in the eastbound lane of the state highway just east of the intersection with Route 539, killed 68-year-old Theresa R. McKeon of Whiting, said Manchester Police Department Lt. Robert Dolan in a statement.
McKeon, who was driving a 2011 KIA, had her dog in the vehicle with her and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by representatives from the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, Dolan said.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 2004 Jaguar driven by June A. Schlegeimilch, 60, of Toms River, was transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of "serious" injuries, Dolan said.
McKeon's dog was taken by Manchester Township Animal Control to a local veterinarian for treatment, according to the lieutenant.
The crash closed Route 70 in the area for several hours and detours were put in place on the highway from Hilltop Road to Route 539 while authorities investigated the crash, Capt. Lisa Parker said earlier Tuesday.
The Whiting First Aid Squad, Whiting Fire Department, Mon-OC Paramedics, Quality Medical Transport, Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminalistics Investigation Unit and the New Jersey Department of Transportation also responded to the scene, Dolan said.
In the first few hours after the crash, police did not initially release the names of those involved as family had not been notified.
The crash is under investigation by Traffic Safety Officer Ptl. Doug Higgins. Police ask that anyone who may have information about the crash call the department's Traffic Safety Section at 732-657-2009, ext. 4400.

I was one of the eye witnesses, this was so horrific. She was driving erratically and into on coming traffic. This poor woman, just could not get out of her way fast enough. Heartbreaking- I did not sleep a wink all night- thoughts and prayers to her family and loved ones.

Good for you. So many people now a days witness an accident and just keep driving. I am glad that you were able to tell someone else's story and be a voice that unfortunately can no longer be heard. Sorry again you had to witness such a horrific event...

So sad, people need to think about there driving and nothing else should matter, no phones no texting and no drinking. if people would just pay attention to what is going on, on the road. RT 70 has had so many killed this year. Prays to the family who lost a love one.

As I understad it, the driver of the jaguar was experiencing a diabetic reaction with low blood sugar. Most often the person doesnt even realize they are having a reaction. So lets not jump to conclusions and think she was texting or phoning or drinking

Regardless of what the driver was experiencing, a life was lost and MANY endangered including myself. It does make me and i hope others wake up and realize that life is more precious then a text a call or a drink. You can say it and hear it but until you see what our vehicles are capable of it doesn't always hit home. Whatever happened.....we all need to be more cautious drivers.

Yew Dana I was al so run off the road by the same lady . She couldn't maintain her lane for 200 feet I think she had something in her system . Prayers go out to the person she killed and her family .

To the ignorant people who have no idea,
The woman in the Jag had absolutely nothing in her system. Her medical condition is what caused the accident. She is actually an amazing woman. As a person in the medical field, I can assure you that individuals with diabetes can have an episode without knowing its happening until its too late. Instead of being INCREDIBLY judgmental, maybe you should think of the possibilities and stop being so stereotypical. As for the woman who was killed, her death is very sad and I send my regards to her family.

But the question is, why did the Jag woman's blood sugar level drop so low to cause this tragedy? If she had a medical condition, did she forget to take her medication? Unfortunately, so many diabetics take their condition lightly and believe that it's a nuisance to have to take insulin. I've known many diabetics and they never take it seriously.

To Cynic. I am a pre-diabetic and take medicine everyday. Unfortunately only so much of it is controlled with diet and exercise. However I can tell you, that even though I make sure I take my medicine each morning, everyone's life is so hectic, sometimes I forget to eat.... or on the flip side, have something with sugar, and it sincerely just hits you. If I do not eat, I can tell and remember once I start becoming light headed, and if I have to much sugar, I can tell because again I become light headed and actually start to feel sick and dizzy. I do what I am supposed to do, however sometimes your body just freaks and there is no explanation for it. I am sure she did take her medicine that day, but something triggered off an episode that unfortunately happened while she was driving..... Its a sad situation. As far as the dog goes... I strongly believe that animals should be contained in the cars, if a bigger dog, they have they sell things you can put on a seatbelt, to strap that dog in.... If its a smaller dog, they have the cases and again you can strap the dog in by use of a seatbelt.... Too many times I see people driving with the dogs on their laps and the dog is hangin out the window.... I often think to myself, If there is ever an accident, that dog does not have a chance.... Everyone in the car should be buckled up, whether human or animal....

to cynic. i can tell u the woman took her condition very seriously. i work with her and watch her religiously check her sugar and take her meds. she had been under a lot of stress which can also affect your levels so let's not jump to conclusions. her coworkers are in shock and very concerned for her as well as the other family. i'm sure at one time or another every diabetic has had a low sugar episode but that doesn't mean they don't take their condition seriously.
