Route 571 Motorcycle Crash Injures Two from Beachwood
Second motorcycle crash in as many days in Manchester
A portion of Route 571 was closed Sunday afternoon after a motorcycle carrying two passengers and a car collided, police said.
Beachwood residents John McLaughlin, 49, and Donna McLaughlin, 48, were riding on a 1996 Harley Davidson eastbound on Route 571 when they collided with a 2009 Nissan Sentra driven by 93-year-old Manchester resident Charles Baasch at the county highway's intersection with Ridgeway Boulevard, according to Manchester Police Department Capt. Lisa Parker.
"Baasch attempted to make a left turn onto Route 571 at which time he impacted McLaughlin’s motorcycle which caused both the driver and passenger to be ejected," Parker said in a statement.
John McLaughlin was driving the motorcycle at the time of the 4:18 p.m. crash; both McLaughlins were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where Parker said they were listed in stable condition. Baasch was uninjured, according to Parker.
Route 571 was closed in both directions near the crash scene for about one hour and the crash is under investigation by Patrolman Paul Bachovchin, Parker said.
Along with police, the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Manchester First Aid Squad, and MONOC and Quality Medical Transport paramedics assisted at the scene, Parker said.
This is the second motorcycle crash in as many days in Manchester. On Saturday, a Burlington County man was admitted to the hospital with critical injuries following an afternoon crash near the Manchester Plaza entrance.
