Educational Foundation Awards Teachers $6,000 in Grants

Teachers will use the money to buy MP3 players, electronic books and more

District teachers recently were awarded over $6,000 in grant money from the Manchester Township Educational Foundation to purchase goods and materials for their classrooms, from iPads to electronic book readers.

Grants were awarded by the foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization that provides funding for items that are normally beyond the scope of the district's budget, at the board of education's January regular meeting.

Three teachers received a total of $1,997 in supplies which included MP3 players, books, electronic book readers and an Apple iPad, according to the complete list of recipients on the school district's website.

Four teachers at  were awarded, in total, $2,166 in supplies. Three iPads, an iPad listening center and preschool math materials were among the donations. 

The foundation also donated $1,500 to the recent , an event that principal Alexander George said was "the beginning of something that’s going to be, I think, transformational and really important to the high school," according to the district.

Additionally, $400 was awarded to a high school physics teacher to purchase a demonstration camera.
