Lakehurst police have issued an arrest warrant for the man accused of stealing a Comcast generator used to power Internet and cable television signals in Hurricane Sandy's wake.

After a "thorough" investigation, Officer Matthew Kline signed a complaint against borough resident Ramon A. Lugo, 33, charging that he stole a Comcast generator that was chained to a Lilac Street telephone pole on Saturday, Nov. 3, Chief of Police Eric Higgins said in a statement.

"The generator was supplying power to the Internet and cable feed to residents of the borough, including the Internet to the Lakehurst Police Department which is needed to access state and federal law enforcement databases," Higgins said.

The chief said that nearby residents were appreciative of the generator and took turns refueling it since it provided cable television and Internet following the powerful storm. 

"For those with power to their homes the access to the Internet and cable television was a welcomed relief and a source of up to date information after Hurricane Sandy," Higgins said.

The chief asks that anyone with information on Lugo's whereabouts contact their local police department or the Lakehurst Police Department at 732-657-7811. Callers may remain anonymous, according to the chief.

It is also requested that members of the public do not attempt to apprehend the suspect, Higgins said.
