Store Opens for Those in Need Inside Whiting Church

Gently used clothing and supplies available for $1

A Whiting church's community outreach group has opened a store offering goods to those in need.

Project Pride, a group formed by Youth Minister Rosemary MacMaster of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, recently held an open house for "Mother Seton's Teen Sellar" a store in the basement of the All Saints Chapel.

"The store has clothing, shoes, pocketbooks, jewelry, toiletries and school supplies for teens in need," MacMaster said.

Gently used clothing and supplies are sold for $1 at the 30 Schoolhouse Rd. church, though those who cannot afford to pay can receive goods at no charge.

"No one in need is ever turned away," MacMaster said.

At the opening, Project Pride members held a fashion show and served light refreshments to those in attendance, including Manchester Mayor Michael Fressola and representatives from schools, parish organizations and Catholic Charities, MacMaster said.

"All the teens on the committee bought clothes from the store and wore them to the open house," MacMaster said. "This open house was to get the were out to people who come in contact with teens who might benefit from the store."

The store made $100 during the open house and a monetary donation was given to help keep it running, MacMaster said.

Clothing and monetary donations are always welcome, MacMaster said, and the store presently is in need of shorts for teenage girls and boys.

The store does not have set hours, so those who want to visit are asked to call MacMaster or Debbie Milecki at 732-350-7391 to make an appointment.
