Police: Officer Assaulted During Domestic Dispute Call at Lakehurst Convenience Store
Incident occurred Tuesday evening at the Lucky 7 Deli and Market on Route 70
A Lakewood man was taken to jail on $27,500 cash bail for multiple charges stemming from a Tuesday evening incident at a borough convenience store, including simple assault and aggravated assault on a Lakehurst police officer.
The charges were issued after 23-year-old Bryce Percell of River Avenue allegedly struck a woman — whose name was not released by police — and the officer who responded to the domestic dispute call at the Lucky 7 Deli and Market at about 6:25 p.m. on Jan. 24.
Ptl. Iain James responded and found that the female victim "had visible signs of injury in which she was allegedly punched in her eye," said Sgt. Ronald Heinzman said in a statement.
James attempted to arrest Percell, but Heinzman said the suspect resisted by shoving the officer and taking a closed-fist swing at him which landed on James' shoulder as he took an evasive step backwards.
James then attempted to subdue Percell with pepper spray, which Heinzman said had no effect. Heinzman said that Percell, who police described at the time as "enraged," removed his jacket and allegedly told the officer that "I've been waiting for this."
Before officer Daniel Hourigan arrived to grab Percell from behind, James used his baton on Percell. Both officers subdued Percell, who also faces charges for resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct, Heinzman said.
Percell was first taken to borough police headquarters and later the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $27,500 cash bail, no 10 percent option, set by Lakehurst Municipal Court Judge Judge Damian Murray.

Sounds like the "Lucky7" deli wasn't too lucky for anyone in this story!
