Cloudy in the morning...then becoming partly sunny. A chance of showers. A chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 70s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.
Not even close. We have not received our flood insurance money yet, so we haven't even begun to "recover". We are still living upstairs without a kitchen. After our govenor's announcement yesterday, we're not sure if recovery will ever be possible.
Sounds so familiar. No, have not received insurance money, we are living upstairs with no kitchen, the downstairs has no insualtion and is as cold inside as outside. I have plastic draped over the stairwell to keep the gusting cold air from blowing upstairs.
There is no way I can complain for having just lost food in the frig and picking up limbs in the yard. My heart and blessings go out to the many, many people who have far from recovered. No matter where I go, there are always some people still totally devastated. May your burdens lessen each day.
No where near. Can't live in our home. No insurance money to date. Our house is on 3 separate slabs and can't be raised. Therefore can't sell and won't be able to afford the insurance to stay. Feeling raped by the govt and losing hope daily that FEMA or the state will realize that the new guidelines are just impossible for some of us to follow. Our only choice is to tear down the remaining 80 percent of our home and rebuild, which we can't afford since we are retired. Why are we being treated differently than the people in the South?
Who came up with this poll. I haven't recovered. My house is OB 1. It's a summer place now but I planned on retiring there. That's off now. It's stripped down. I had no insurance but am going to repair it, mainly with friends. It won't be the same, have to go a little cheaper but it'll be there. I'm not going to raise it. I'm not worried about selling. I'm on a double lot and I would imagine that even in the best of times it woudl be a knock down and rebuild if someone bought it anyway.I've had the place 31 years and never got flooded before and I doubt I will again. By the way, to answerDib's question, I know why. We're all "rich white folks" at the Jersey shore. Get it?
Flood Insurance Company has been "considering" my claim, filed at the beginning of January. Homeowner's insurance says my damages don't rise above my deductible which is wrong, given the condition of my entire fence half of which the wind blew down. The HO adjuster concerning the loss of use of the property caused by the loss of power until the evening of Nov 16 was supposed to contact me within 24-48 hrs. It's been 2 weeks. I doubt calling the HO insurance company will yield anything so I will have to go to Dept of Banking and Insurance to get THEM to exert pressure. Last Sat., the floors in my 3 BR 2 bath house started to be torn up. I just charged another Sandy expense to a credit card:: 17 joists and plywood for the floor. My builder is working despite the fact that I haven't paid him the 25% down he's he should have received when he commenced the project. I am in my third temporary housing. I can't extract from FEMA the forms I need to complete in order to get a housing allowance. I borrowed this month's rent.A two ton oak tree fell on the home of my brother, his wife and their 12 year old son. THEY are fighting with THEIR homeowner's insurance company. They retained an engineer. I will have to retain a water engineer to come up w/ a plan to shield my crawlspace&garage from future floods.FEMA proposes to raise my classification across the street from lagoons, from AE to V& my base elevation from 5' to 9'.Everyday, I gird myself for battle so I can contend w/ all of this.
Amazing ...we got the fema Max and the sba loan. Part of deal is we now need insurance but all in all things are near normal. Our contractor has been phenomenal and so fair to wait on payment. Town seems to be working hard to. Been tough for so many of course but will never forget those who brought hot food in Oct and early Nov as well as the high school kids moving our biggest furniture out. Many neighbors are walking away and selling hones as is but ppb is a great place to live. Even with the poor town relationships...I love this place!
Rent our toms river home to my kids, it was destroyed. Recovered? not quite yet. FEMA won't give us a dime cause considered my "secondary home". Plan was to rent it to the kids for 5 years, this was in 2008, sell it and keep the house in retirement village and get a condo is fla. well those plans down the drain right now. my kids have no home, my daughter and granddaughter from seaside still cant get back to their condo and my poor inlaws, who are such proud people lived on the bay in seaside and they are washed out. We are trying to renovate, luckily, the flood ins. adjuster came quickly after sandy and gave us an "advance" now got the final payout and bank holding on to it. Unbelievable. We already sunk close to 50K to restore it, but why? Bank wont release rest of money yet. But, we getting there. Hopefully another 4-5 weeks. Kills me to go there. We purchased that home in 1983 for $42,000 now lucky if someone will take it for free. Many good memories there, but now i can't even walk into it, even though it is looking better now. still much more to do, but now they say we have to raise it. WTH? worse comes to worse, let the bank take it and deal with it........
Mass EXODUS from the shore soon, as $30,000/yr. flood insurance premiums or $60,000 to elevate house (impossible because it's on a slab) -- put us between a rock and a wet place! Thousands are in the same boat. Christie didn't think it through when he adopted the crazy FEMA ultimatium. Thousands will walk away when they see how much property values drop because of that!
When is people going to realize the government or politicians does not care about anyone but themselves. They are here to collect and steal your money. Christie never thinks things through.... yet so many thinks he is great..best thing since white bread. He is just looking for votes from his pals with money for reelection.
