Partly sunny with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog this morning. Highs in the lower 80s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
Extra lanes would ease some of the traffic problems caused by the bad combination of slower drivers, those rushing to get to work and trucks...I hate the thought of construction, but it is needed. If it does get busier, that will be a good draw for businesses. We need ratables, and concentrating them on Route 70 makes all the sense in the world. A lot of complaints about taxes, but every time something comes up that might increase revenue (nursing home, Walmart, etc), it bothers someone. Can’t have it both ways.
They absolutely have to make the stretch from Rt. 527 to Rt. 571 four lanes. Traffic tie ups through that area are ridiculous around rush hour and all because of the bridge needing to be replaced by Homestead Run to accommodate the four lanes, and a stupid light at the landfill entrance that doesn't cycle correctly and gives Rt 70 a twenty second green if someone hits the trip on Green Acres Rd.
As for expanding Rt. 70 westward from there, how about doing three lanes with the alternating direction in the center lane like they do in mountainous regions for the people to get by the slower trucks? Then there would be areas to pass the slower traveling vehicles across the state safely on Rt. 70.
As for business expansion out in the Whiting area on Rt.70, it would have to be rateables that seniors would visit so they could survive, since it is a large percentage of seniors in that area. I am surprised that TGI Fridays or some outfit like that hasn't bought the Cranberries restaurant with the liquor license out there. There are so few eateries out that way.
I agree, all we have is chinese and italian restaurants. We could use some decent restaurants, a cracker barrel which would draw all the seniors in the developments, a I Hop, a Dunkin Donuts, There is nothing in this area. It is great living, but there are no restaurants or decent shopping.
Yes, we do need more lanes because of the traffic, but we absolutely need stores for shopping. There is nothing in the lakewood, toms river, manchester area for shopping. We have to go to Brick or Route 37 for shopping. We could use a Cracker Barrel Restaurant and a Wegmans Super Market in this area badly.
The problem with the area shopping isnt so much the road, as much it is the town. You have no idea what it takes to get a resturant in this town. We have more
bulls**t ordances. The D&D that was or maybe going up on Rt 70 and 527 had to get a hearing to approve a drive thru, because its againt town ordances, they have to approve delivery times etc, thats why all the bussinesses are on the twp boarders and in lakehurst,
We have plenty of land that can be used on rt 70 w for ratables that we need. You have land from the border of Lakehurst to Whiting where you could build a mall with like Freehold mall. If a mall goes through the highway automatically would expand.
