Route 530 Shut Down For Hours After Lexus Strikes Pole
Bayville woman charged with DWI, possession of CDS
A Bayville woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after her vehicle struck a utility pole on Route 530 in Manchester Township at 7:58 p.m. Saturday, shutting down the county road for hours.
A 2003 Lexus RX300, driven by 42-year-old Maria F. Torre, left the roadway and struck a utility pole stationed along the westbound section of Route 530 near Columbus Boulevard, according to Police Captain Lisa Parker.
Torre suffered a minor injury and was transported by Quality Medical to Community Medical Center for further treatment.
There were no other vehicles or persons involved in the crash, police said.
The downed wires and utility pole caused police to shut down a section of Route 530 for hours.
After being released from Community Medical Center, Torre was taken into police custody and charged with DWI, Possession of a controlled dangerous substance (pills) and drug paraphernalia. Torre was later transported to Ocean County Jail in lieu $7,500.00 bail.
The incident is being investigated by Manchester Township Police Officer Richard Chevrier.
The Whiting Volunteer Fire Company, along with Quality Medical, assisted officers who were on the scene.
