Weekend Military Training May Shake Ground

Exercises at Joint Base ranges will end by 11 p.m.

Locals may experience booms and ground tremors this weekend as military members conduct training exercises at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, a base spokesman said.

Members of the 3rd Battalion, 112th Field Artillery are set to conduct training at the installation's ranges Saturday and Sunday. Firing of 105mm cannons by the New Jersey Army National Guard is scheduled to end by 11 p.m. each day, according to Media Relations Chief Bill Addison.

"This training is essential and helps to ensure the readiness of America's fighting force," Addison said.

Some residents may hear more noise than usual coming from the joint base's ranges and may experience possible ground shaking. Noise from the training can travel farther in overcast conditions, according to officials.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be sunny days, according to the National Weather Service.

Base range complexes, which are located between McGuire and Dix, near Ocean County's border with Burlington County, are occasionally used for training.

Residents throughout Ocean County, including those in Manchester and Lakehurst, often experience the results of the training despite the long distance to the ranges.

The base "works hard to minimize the impact training has on its surrounding communities and is committed to remaining good neighbors," Addison said.

Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to contact the base public affairs office at 609-754-2104.

joanwarrin is just a grumpy old anti-American, that needs to be kept behind gates for the protection of all normal people that support America and understand that some training needs to be performed at night, as there are no 'time out' in war.
