Whiting Man Indicted on Identity Theft Charges

Grand juries hand up indictments

A Whiting man faces charges accusing him of impersonating another man in order to take out two credit cards that he used to buy goods.

Jason M. Vanclief, 28, of East Hudson Parkway was indicted last week by an Ocean County grand jury on multiple charges accusing him of victimizing a Manchester man for several months.

Authorities said Vanclief faked his identity last year to obtain a Discover card in another's name that he then used to buy items from Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.

Earlier this year, Vanclief fraudulently took out a Mastercard in the same victim's name that he then used at WaWa in Toms River, the indictment states.

Vanclief was charged with two counts each of impersonation, unlawful procuring the issuance of a credit card and fraudulent use of a credit card.

He was held on $2,500 bail, 10 percent option allowed.

Grand juries also indicted:

  • Lauren A. Hand, 23, of Ocean Gate on theft charges.

Hand stole a pocketbook and a TD Bank card from a Manchester woman Dec. 21, the indictment states.

She was held on $15,000 bail, 10 percent option allowed.

  • Todd J. Anderson, 44, of Lakehurst on theft and drug charges.

Anderson was arrested Jan. 19 and accused of stealing cash and a prescription drug from a Manchester man. He was released on a summons.

  • Raymond E. Schlatmann, 43, of Manchester on theft by deception and issuing a bad check charges.

Schlatmann allegedly accessed the account of a Manchester woman on Oct. 20 by "creating or reinforcing a false impression that he was submitting a check from a bank account which he was authorized to tender," the indictment states. Later that day, he issued a bad check in someone else's name at Chase Bank, the indictment states.

He was released on a summons.
