Whiting Woman Airlifted for Burn Treatment After Kitchen Fire

Woman suffered burns to hands and face during Thursday incident

A Whiting woman was airlifted to a Philadelphia hospital after she suffered burns in a kitchen fire Thursday evening.

Police received a 911 call from a Martin Drive resident at 7:16 p.m., during which a fire alarm could be heard in the background, said Capt. Lisa Parker in a statement.

Police arrived at the Pine Ridge at Crestwood home and found Frances Flanagan, 52, out front. Emergency responders from Quality Medical Transport treated burns on Flanagan's face and hands and determined that she required further care, Parker said.

Flanagan was taken by New Jersey State Police SouthStar helicopter to the burn center at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, according to the captain.

The Whiting Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene and ventilated the kitchen, which Parker said received "minor" damage from a stove fire, Parker said.

Authorities do not consider the fire suspicious, Parker said, and it remains under investigation by Manchester Police Patrolman Brian Volk and Detective Thomas Haskell of Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Arson Unit.
