The Shootings In Connecticut

Eleven days before Christmas, a day that most Catholics see as a day of Joy, and now a terrible shooting at a elementry school 18 kids from kindergarten to 4th grade DEAD.

God you have tested my Faith before, but now I just don't know what your grand plan is. It does not seem to me that it is working. My heart goes out to the parents involved in this, as my prayers do, but I don't know if the prayers really do work anymore.

Whoever did this got a pass from God. Why Why Why?

As variant purported authorities try to promote their own special view of this terrible tragedy, let us ignore them and take a moment to pray with our societies newest angels, and for their parents who now know the pain most feared by any parent.

This is not a Gun Control Issue. Gun Control is pushed by people who want to control the rest of us without the possibility of any resistance.

It is a Societal Issue, a Human Issue. And changes to laws concerning criminal penalties are needed to control those who are sane:
1) Commit a crime with a gun or in possession of a gun, sentence + 10 Years.
2) Commit a crime with a gun, where any person is harmed, sentence + 20 Years.
3) Kill a human in other than self defensive action, sentence + Die in prison of natural causes, no parole or early release for any reason.

Persons having any stability related mental issues may not have firearms of any nature.

You say this is not a gun issue and yet you want to make changes to laws that, ahem, involve guns. How in the name of Jove is this not a gun issue? It was one of the worst gun massacres in US history, it's one in a long line of recent massacres and it involves a mentally unstable person having easy access to semi-automatics and high capacity magazines. 20 innocent kids were murdered, assassinated, they were shot multiple times, some as many as 11 times, all in the space of a few minutes according to reports. I notice that many people who don't want to talk about guns, shhh, how dare you talk about guns, are ready to make new laws about the insane, mentally ill people. But we're not allowed to refine, tweak, alter or add to existing gun laws. They want to make new laws about violent video games, violent movies and violent TV programs. But it is strictly forbidden to talk about beefing up our gun laws, that's a taboo. Even the conservative, gun owning, Bush appointed judge who sentenced Jared Loughner, wants to ban assault weapons, semi-automatics and high capacity magazines. Judge Larry A. Burns said, "There is just no reason civilians need to own assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Gun enthusiasts can still have their venison chili, shoot for sport and competition, and make a home invader flee for his life without pretending they are a part of the SEAL team that took out Osama bin Laden."

As for Anders Behring Breivik, it's unlike;y he will ever get out. >>He was sentenced to preventive detention, a special form of prison sentence, with a term of 21 years and a minimum of 10 years, with the possibility of extension for as long as he is deemed a danger to society; the media have noted that he is unlikely to be released until much later than 21 years, and will probably remain in prison for life.<< It should be noted that massacres like this are extremely rare in Norway, they don't happen every few months. Norway has an extremely low crime and murder rate.

Rich, it's not a Catholic holy day, it's a Christian holy day...Christmas that is. And Joe R, you got it right. Guns have one purpose and design. Harm and injure to the greatest degree. It was designed to one up the other guy in war and fight situations. Guns simply serve no civil, peaceful societal purpose. That's all. I would suggest, urge, we amend the constitution to first be able to stop the lamest excuse people use, their 2nd amendment rights, and deem the constitution NOT to be the law of God. Our, any, constitution should be always considered for updating, clarification, revision based on the needs of the people as times DO change. Then, we correct and update our gun laws. Regulation is a must. It's proven and we need it here in the US. Especially, as no one thinks about his, to show the world we aren't the total idiots they make us out to be and see us as. The minority should not run and ruin (funny how those words are so similar) our good country. The knowing majority should and make a statement that we know what's got to be done.

Rapid firing, high velocity weapons do not kill people. Readily available weapons of this description increase the ability for one person to kill and injure many more children in the shortest period of time.

Representative Smith has been a staunch supporter of banning this sort of weapon. Twice he supported the Brady Bill. Why is he silent now?

my two cents, from a mom of a Kindergartner. the horrible events in Connecticut truly pained me and I am still plagued by the events to this day and i doubt they will ever leave me. I truly believe that semi-automatics and high capacity magazines do not belong in the hands of a civilian. But this of course is my opinion. I do not see any reason for it. If you want to shoot some deer, why use this type of weapon? If you enjoy shooting, why not just go to the range and leave those weapons at the range? I understand most want weapons in their homes for protection. I get that. But I agree with the previous poster, that those with some mental incapacity should not have weapons in the home. The mother of Lanza may have had some type of incapacity as well as the her son. Neither should have had guns period.

and what may i ask makes you an expert on mental issues and pass judgement against someone else, the mother in this case.your one sided views might not make you a good role model for your children, hence they must be taken away...silly isn't it?

never said I was an expert nor was I passing judgement on anyone, I am entitled to my opinion, i was also agreeing with something a previous poster had said. maybe you should read my post again. just because i do not want guns in my home doesn't mean i am not a good role model for my children. unbelievable.

You can ban guns, but you can't un-invent them. You will be creating a black market. You will be taking them away from law-abiding citizens. Criminals will still have them, and psychopaths will still find a way to commit mass murder...poison, arson, bombs, chemicals, a train derilment, or perhaps a passenger jet into a skyscraper.

Stock up on pepper spray, baseball bats, and cheap vodka for Molotov cocktails. It will soon be the only way to defend your home. We are going over the fiscal cliff. There is no money to pay the police. QE is a farce, its fiat money. Too late for the sheeple to wake up. America is dead.

Good Lord people! The government is playing you like a fiddle:

“The government encouraged the manufacture and importation of firearms for the criminals to use. This is intended to foster a feeling of insecurity, which would lead the American people to voluntarily disarm themselves by passing laws against firearms. Using drugs and hypnosis on mental patients in a process called Orion, the CIA inculcated the desire in these people to open fire on schoolyards and thus inflame the ant-igun lobby. This plan is well under way, and so far is working perfectly. The middle class is begging the government to do away with the 2nd Amendment.”
