When the Manchester Schools’ 2009-10 budget was voted down, the elementary band was one of the programs that the district was forced to cut for last year. That is when David Trethaway, Superintendent of Schools, and Tom Scharibone, music teacher at Ridgeway Elementary School, decided something had to be done. “The superintendent called me up, and asked me if there was anything that we could do,” Scharibone said. The Lakehurst/Manchester Rotary Club recently presented three high school graduates with scholarship checks for $1,000 each.  Seniors Emily Claus, Jade Orth and Matt Brown were given the awards "based on service to the community and academic achievement," according to club member Brendan Weiner. According to the Rotary, Claus will major in architecture at Pratt Institute, Orth will study wildlife conservation at Delaware Valley College and Brown will work toward a mechanical engineering degree at NJIT. Manchester Township High School held its 2011 commencement ceremony on June 16 at the school's athletic field. Nearly 300 students received their diplomas. A parent returns a stack of textbooks at Manchester Township High School's main office as students, eager to go home, wait behind the main entrance doors while buses begin arriving at 10:30 a.m. for early dismissal. Manchester Township High School has released its Class of 2011 Top Ten Students list. Graduates are set to walk at the high school's athletic field on Thursday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m. The township's middle school will hold its graduation on the same day at 3:30 p.m. High school students have been on an early dismissal schedule since June 13. All schools will have an abbreviated day on June 16, the final day of classes. Manchester seniors will say goodbye on Thursday, June 16, as they walk at the high school's 2011 graduation ceremony at the athletic field at 6:30 p.m. The school has released the program for tomorrow's festivities, which include musical performances and speeches by students, faculty and board of education members. Four students graduated from the Manchester-managed Regional Day School in Jackson on Thursday morning. Graduates were Alexander Tafaro, of Manchester, and Christopher Brandt and Craig Erick, of Plumstead. The name of a graduate from Jackson was withheld. Awards were presented to students and Industrial Arts teacher Jeffrey Bishop and the class of 2011 presented a grandfather clock they constructed to principal Ralph Lotierzo.
