Chilly weather returns this week, but fortunately we were able to take a ride through Island Beach State Park on Sunday afternoon to get some much-needed (mild) fresh air. We thought we'd share some photos with our readers.

Gone are the days at the boardwalk in Seaside Heights / Park Back in winters of 1979-80 while I was managing the Funtown Arcade I can remember warm January days when the weekends would bring hundreds to walk on the boardwalk by the Funtown Pier. Now because of Sandy & the fire, it is all gone. Those were the days people. I was born & raised in Toms River and it was the memories of my youth & after college that still fill my mind. Just so sad to see it gone for now

Yes Paul...the jersey shore has really changed and much more so since Sandy. We now seem to just have our memories but hoping the future generations can make their own wonderful memories as well.

We couldn't afford to go to the Boardwalk, but we would go to The Phipps Estate (now Island Beach Park) in the dark and watch the sun rise and cook breakfast on the beach. We built sand castles and collected a large variety of shells. I stillhave my collection in the shallow drawers of an antique dental cabinet. And I have the memories stored in my heart and soul. ~~~/)~~~2/24/2014
