A Week Full Of Clouds And Rain Ahead

September began with plenty of sunshine but this week will be full of clouds with nearly 3 inches of rain heading our way

After a week dominated by sunshine which helped to dry out the saturated ground from Hurricane Irene, a cloudy week full of unsettled weather lies ahead.

Slow moving Tropical Storm Lee will drop as much as 20 inches of rain over several Gulf Coast states and begin to work its way up toward our region. As it approaches our area, it will interact with a passing cold front adding to the already gloomy skies.

As Tropical Storm Lee and the passing cold front interact with each other, Hurricane Katia may be close enough to the east coast to add some more precipitation to our area.

On Monday, there will be partly cloudy skies. The temperature will be in the low-80s with high humidity. There is the chance for several afternoon thunderstorms that might put a hamper on some of the Labor Day festivities.

Students will return to school just as a cold front will pass through our area on Tuesday bringing with it cloudy skies and rainy weather. The temperature will drop down into the mid-70s as this front passes through.

This unsettled weather will continue on Wednesday, as well. The temperature will remain in the mid-70 with rain throughout the day. This rain should amount to over an inch as this system continues to pass through the area.

On Thursday, there will be mostly cloudy skies with the chance of light showers throughout the day. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s.

The clouds will continue on Friday with the occasional break of sun. The temperature will reach the high-70s with wind gusts over 25 mph.

The weekend will begin with more clouds covering the sky. Then, there should be some breaks of sunshine. There will be the chance for several showers throughout the day and a thunderstorm in the evening. The temperatures will rise into the high-70s.

On Sunday, the sun may finally make an appearance. The humidity will be high making it feel as though it is 84 degrees even though the thermometer will only read in the high-70s.

Unlike Hurricane Irene, which traveled over Puerto Rico and through the Bahamas, Hurricane Katia will travel well north of these islands and west of Bermuda. The storm is expected to begin to curve back into the Atlantic and avoid any landfall with the United States. There is still the chance that the track of the storm can shift to the west where its effects could be felt along the east coast. This will have to be monitored closely as the week progresses.
