Five things to know today

The good news — temperatures will reach the low 70s. The bad news — showers and thunderstorms are expected, according to the National Weather Service. With any luck, the sun should be out Friday and into the weekend.

Below are some of today's local happenings:

1. Club Pokemon will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Manchester's branch of the Ocean County Library. Kids ages 9-12 can trade cards, learn to draw characters and make friends with other Pokemon fans. Register online or call 732-657-7600 for more information.

2. Manchester students will be welcomed into the National Honor Society during an induction at 7 p.m. tonight in the high school's cafeteria.

3. The County Connection will host osteoporosis screenings for women from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Ocean County Mall office. Call 732-288-7777 to make an appointment.

4. Also at the connection, Sen. Frank Lautenburg's staff assistant will be available from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to speak with Ocean County residents. 

5. The BlueClaws will take on the Charleston Riverdogs at 6:35 p.m. at FirstEnergy Field in Lakewood. It's Thirsty Thursday at the stadium. Call 732-901-7000 for ticket information.
