Five things to know for today

We saw a lot of rain yesterday, so let's hope for a sunnier Saturday. The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies and a high of 54 today.

Here are today's happenings:

1. Manchester's branch of the Ocean County Library will help kick off National Library Week with presentations from authors William Dunn and Tamika Newhouse. The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be catered by chef Ian Smith and Zarita Mattox will perform a song. Call 732-657-7600 for more information.

2. Too much rain for baseball yesterday? The BlueClaws take on the Kannapolis Intimidators at 4:05 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. Best part -- tickets are just $1. Call 732-901-7000 for ticket information.

3. Cat and dog adoptions are free during the Ocean County Animal Shelter's Spring Fling from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the department's Jackson facility. Officials are asking for a small donation in place of the adoption fee. Call 732-657-8086 for more information.

4. Georgian Court University will host Social Networking 101 at Raymond Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop will introduce users to social networking technologies like Facebook and Twitter. Call 732-987-2232 for more information.

5. Six Flags Great Adventure and Wild Safari on Route 537 in Jackson opens today and will be open weekends through May 25 until opening on its regular schedule. More information is available by calling 732-928-1821 or online.
