Five things to know in and around Manchester today

Showers and thunderstorms are possible all day, especially after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The day will be cloudy with a high of about 82 degrees.

Here are some of today's local happenings:

1. If your child needs a bit of help with his or her reading skills, the "Read to the Dogs" program at  may help. Beginner readers can hone their reading skills as a certified therapy dog listens patiently from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration for a 15 minute slot is required by calling 732-657-7600.

2. Also at the library, the film "Welcome to the Rileys" will be shown at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

3. The County Connection today will offer assistance with consumer issues. An Ocean County Consumer Affairs Department representative will help get answers from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the connection. Call 732-288-7777 for more information.

4. Fireworks will be viewable from the Seaside Heights boardwalk at 9:30 p.m. For more information, call 800-732-7467.
