Feb. 11: Tuskegee Airman, Bingo and a Performance

Library honors local World War II veteran, bingo at the middle school and a play at the college

We can expect mostly sunny skies and a high of about 36 degrees today as our weather enters a warming trend in coming days. It will be cold tonight, though, as the National Weather Service has predicted a low of 23 degrees.

Here are some things to consider as we head into the weekend:

1. Take the entire family to Candy Bar Bingo at he Manchester Middle School cafeteria, 2759 Ridgeway Rd. The event, sponsored by the Manchester PTA, runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with doors opening at 6:45 p.m. Prizes include candy and other snacks.

2. Celebrate Black History Month with local Tuskegee Airman George Watson. The World War II veteran will be at the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library for a presentation, including entertainment from a local jazz musician, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Register online or call 732-657-7600. 

3. The Hawks girls and boys basketball teams play Manalapan at 5:30 p.m. The girls will play at home, while the boys hit the road.

4. The Robert J. Novins Planetarium at the Ocean County College has a few events today. The astronomy club meets at 7 p.m., the same time that Wonders of the Sky will be shown. Bad Astronomy: Myths and Misconceptions follows at 8:15 p.m. Tickets for the hour-long shows are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children 12 and under and OCC students. 5. Also at Ocean County College is a performance of the off-Broadway play, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change." The show starts at 8 p.m. in the Arts and Community Center Theatre. Tickets are $25 at the door or $22 in advance. Call the box office at 732-255-0500.
