Feb. 18: School's Out, Kid's Programs and Maritime Speakers

Schools are closed for President's Weekend, the library is hosting programs for kids, the Maritime Museum hosts guest speakers and more

Looks like another nice day, as the National Weather Service predicts a high of 66 degrees. Be on the lookout for fog if you're heading out before 8 a.m.

Below are some things to consider as we head into the weekend:

1. Manchester schools and Lakehurst Elementary School are closed today until Feb. 21 for President's Weekend.

2. Since the kids are out of school, take them to the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library for two programs: A Celebration of African Americans in the Civil War at 1 p.m. and Benjamin Banneker's Clock from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Call 732-657-7600 for more information. 

3. Visit the Ocean County Community Connection to learn where you can get assistance with consumer issues. An Ocean County Consumer Affairs Department representative will help get answers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the connection's Ocean County Mall office near JC Penny's.

4.The Ocean County Artists' Guild will hold a benefit concert at 8 p.m. A $5 donation gets guests a concert with Clan Suibhne, a group specializing in "unplugged-upbeat contemporary, American Folk, 'Greengrass,' Celtic, Irish and Highland infused music."

5.The New Jersey Maritime Museum, Dock Road and West Avenue in Beach Haven, will host guest speakers Steve and Maureen Langeven as part of the "Women of Northeast Wreck Diving" at 7 p.m. Seating is limited, so call 609-492-0202 to make a reservation.
