Five things to do today

Today's weather should be partly sunny with a high of about 43, according to the National Weather Service. Winds will be much more calm when compared to yesterday, as they are expected to blow around 7 mph.

Here are some events going on today:

1. Today marks the final performance of "Les Miserables" by the Performing Arts Academy of the Ocean County Vocational Technical School. Tickets for either the 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. performance at the Strand Center for the Performing Arts in Lakewood are $19. Call 732-367-7789 for more information.

2. The Robert J. Novins Planetarium has a number of shows today: Secret of the Cardboard Rocket at 11:30 a.m., Wonders of the Winter Sky at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Bad Astronomy: Myths and Misconceptions at 2:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Tickets for the shows, which run about an hour, are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children 12 and under and OCC students. 3. Feeling adventurous? Take the Polar Bear Plunge in Seaside at 1 p.m. Online registration has closed, but participants can sign up on site at the Aztec Ocean Resort at 9 a.m. Donations, which go to the Special Olympics, can also be made online.

4. It is Science Saturday in Long Beach Island. From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., presenter Jay Madden will show how professionals conduct an energy audit and analyze results in an effort to save money at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, 120 Long Beach Blvd. Call 609-494-1241 for more information.

5. The Manchester Hawks boys and girls are scheduled to compete in the Varsity Indoor Track Meet of Champions. The event, postponed from its original Feb. 19 date, is set for 10 a.m. at the John Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex, 1519 Hooper Ave. in Toms River.
