Take a look back at what you may have missed last week on Manchester Patch

Here's some of what made news last week on Manchester Patch. As always, get the latest updates by following us on Facebook and Twitter.1. The state released its school aid numbers for 2011-12, and Manchester schools will receive an increaseafter a large decrease in aid last year. School Business Administrator Craig Lorentzen said that the aid increase was "unexpected" but warned that there is still "a long way to go" to get the budget within the state's 2 percent cap.2. The Lakehurst/Manchester Lions Club recently donated fundsto Manchester police so the department can purchase a new ballistic vest. Chief Brian Klimakowski said that it is "tremendous" whenever a local organization steps up to help the town. With over 60 officers requiring vests, the chief said that replacing the equipment, which usually has an effective lifespan of five years, is a costly endeavor. Lions Past Present Corinne Lacey said that the club aims to give back to the community and knew the police could use the aid. 3. Manchester Police Chief Brian Klimakowski last week visited the Lakehurst/Manchester Rotary meeting to share his experiences as a police and SWAT officer with local schoolchildren in attendance. The chief brought along SWAT gear including ballistic vests, flash bang grenades and a $16,000 remote-controlled reconnaissance robot. Klimakowski said that community outreach is important for the police department and encouraged interested children and their parents to contact the station to learn more about becoming a youth explorer.4. Manchester teachers have been using a website called DonorsChoose.org to help fund projects falling outside the scope of the school budget. Teachers make a case for their project online and DonorsChoose visitors then pick what they would like to fund. The website has helped teachers receive money for laptops, projectors and iPods.5. A Hainesport man was arrested and charged locallywith burglary, theft and criminal trespass after being stopped by a Manchester patrolman in Whiting last week. Jeffrey Street Jr. was stopped last week by Ptl. Adam Guker, who found coils of electrical wire and copper piping. Police said that Street admitted to removing the wire and piping from an America's Keswick storage trailer.
