Feb. 8: Budget Meeting, Yearbooks and Basketball

A big day for events within the Manchester School District

After yesterday's bit of mild and sometimes sunny weather, we're facing a chance of rain and snow showers before 3 p.m. today. The National Weather Service reported that skies will be partly sunny and temperatures should reach a high of 40 degrees.

Here are some things to keep in mind for today, especially if you're a parent with school-age children:

1. Is your middle schooler asking for a yearbook? Manchester Middle School is holding a yearbook sale through Feb. 11. Students can reserve a book by bringing $35 in cash or money order to their homeroom teacher. One more opportunity to buy a book remains, but the school district noted the cost will rise to $40 during that end of year sale.

2. In more school happenings, the Manchester Board of Education will hold the first of two special budget meetings tonight, during which principals from district schools will give presentations. School officials have to stay informed and participate in the process. The meeting is 6 p.m. at Ridgeway Elementary School.

3. Jenkinson's Aquarium, 300 Ocean Ave. in Point Pleasant Beach, is hosting a Toddler Make and Take from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The little ones, ages 3-5, can make crafts, hear a story and learn about animals. Admission is $18 per adult/child pair, and $8 for each extra child. Register by calling 732-899-1659.

5. Student artwork will be unveiled tonight at the Ocean County Library Manchester Branch. A reception celebrating the works of Whiting Elementary students, which will be featured at the library all month, is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
