Feb. 9: Free Movie, School Meetings and Jazz

Catch a movie, get involved with the school district, relax with some jazz and more

Looks like we're back into below-freezing temperatures today, as our high is expected to reach 30. Tomorrow could be even colder. Could get windy out there, too, as west winds are expected between 10 and 14 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

1. If you're in the mood for a film, the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library is screening "Secretariat" at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The PG-rated film chronicles the story of a housewife who made a horse into a champion.

2. Today marks the second day of Manchester schools . Principals and two administrators presented yesterday; today the remaining departments will present their outlook for next year, 6 p.m. at the Ridgeway Elementary Media Center.

3. Parents of Manchester high schoolers are invited to attend the Parent Advisory Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library. Guidance counselor Jane Williams will present the topic, "Guidance Overview."

4. The Ocean County College in Toms River presents the Dorian Parreott Trio as part of the MidWeek Jazz series. Tickets are $15 at the door or $13 in advance for the 8 p.m. show at the Arts and Community Center Theatre. Call 732-255-0500 for tickets or more information.

5. Have some hot chocolate or coffee at the Murray Grove Retreat and Conference Center in Lanoka Harbor. English folk artists will perform. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and a $10 donation is asked. Call 609-693-5558 to make a reservation.
