Five Things to Know for Tuesday, Jan. 18

Some important business and fun can be had today

We got a bit of snow last night, so make sure to check that these events are going on without delay.

1. Veterans needing some information with employment, health and benefits should head over to the Ocean County Mall. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Ocean County Office of Veterans Services and Workforce NJ's Veterans Assistance will be at the County Connection near JC Penny's to lend a hand. Call 732-288-7777 for more information.

2. Catch some high school sports tonight. If you're up for bowling, the Manchester girls and boys teams will face off against Brick Township at 3 p.m. at Ocean Lanes in Lakewood. If basketball is your game, watch the Hawks take on Jackson Memorial at 5:30 p.m.: girls are away and boys are home.

3. It's the third Tuesday of the month, which means the Lakehurst Board of Education is scheduled to meet tonight. The public portion of the meeting is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Lakehurst Elementary School, 301 Union Ave., in the media center.

4. Kids can get some help with their reading thanks to Mark, the certified reading therapy golden retriever. The pup will be at the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library to aid beginning readers up to age 10 by providing an attentive and non-judgmental audience. Call ahead at 732-657-7600 to reserve a spot.
