Fourth of July Promises Some Local Fun
A rundown of Fourth of July events in Manchester and Lakehurst
With the Fourth of July weekend upon us, many Americans will hit the road to take advantage of the three-day weekend with vacations and day trips.
But, if you’re staying local, there are plenty of ways to have a fun-filled holiday weekend without having to trek out to Seaside Heights or Point Pleasant to fight for limited $10 parking spaces with tourists.
Instead, enjoy some Manchester and Lakehurst festivities that kick off on Saturday night.

On July 2, Manchester will host an Independence Day Celebration at Harry Wright Lake, in the Whiting section of town, from 5 p.m to 9 p.m.
For the children there will be free rides available throughout the duration of the evening.

As the evening moves on, attendees will be able to enjoy two free concerts, with a performance by Nicholas King, followed by The Fabulous Greaseband.
The weekend fun does not end on Saturday however, as the action picks up on Monday with Lakehurst’s Fourth of July festivities.
The day begins with the annual Fourth of July Car Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., held at the Lakehurst Elementary School on Union Avenue. The car show also serves as a fundraiser for the Lakehurst Historical Society Museum.
After that, be sure to check out the Lakehurst Fourth of July parade, beginning at 11 a.m. The parade will follow a route down Union Avenue from the Lakehurst Post Office to Lake Horicon Park.
Then cap off the day at the lake for the borough-sponsored fireworks display beginning at dusk.
In between, stop by the Fleet Reserve Association, 204 Union Ave., for a barbecue, open to all, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The long range forecast is looking good, with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s, so get ready for a fun filled local Fourth of July weekend.
