Friday, Feb. 4: Report Cards, A Disney Star and Big Games

Report cards are issued today, "Hannah Montana" star performs in Whiting and bowlers finish season

Yesterday was a cold one, but today is expected to be sunny with a high of 37 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, we have a chance of snow after 1 a.m., as clouds roll in and the temperature drops to 28 degrees. 

At least we've almost made it to the weekend. Below are five things to keep in mind for today; let us know of any weekend events in the comments section following the article.

1. Report cards are being issued today for Manchester students, so don't be duped if the kids tell you they haven't gotten theirs yet.

2. In other school news, Whiting Elementary students recently won a contest held by Philadelphia radio station Q102. Their reward: a concert today headlined by Emily Osment, one of the stars of Disney's "Hannah Montana." Whiting Principal Marjorie Stevens said that her students were supposed to have a perfect attendance assembly today, but the concert "will be so much more fun!" Manchester Patch will be in attendance and bring you the highlights.

3. Today marks the end of the regular season for the Manchester Hawks bowling teams. As we , both teams are poised to clinch berths in the Shore Conference Tournament, which will be held next week. Both squads face off against Brick Township today, 3 p.m. at Ocean Lanes.

4. The Home School Book Discussion group at the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library will analyse "Elijah of Buxton" as participants ages 9-12 celebrate Black History Month. The book tells the tale of the first freeborn child in Buxton, Canada, who travels to America and witnesses slavery. Register online or call 732-657-7600.

5. Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools will hold a demonstration of their programs today. Stop by the Community Connection in the Ocean County Mall from 2-6 p.m. to learn more about what each school has to offer.
