June 3: Relay for Life Begins, Mentoring Information and Library Closure

Five things to know today

Temperatures should be a bit cooler today, as the National Weather Service is predicting a high of 76 degrees with sunny skies.

Here are today's local happenings:

1. Manchester's Relay for Life will kick off at 4 p.m. at the township's  football field with a Survivor Luncheon. Opening Ceremonies will be held at 5 p.m. Sponsors can still pledge their support for the overnight event by making a donation online, or by calling Sue Holland at 732-657-2121.

2. The Ocean County Mentoring Program would like adult volunteers to work with boys and girls ages 8 to 11. The program coordinator will be available to discuss the details at the County Connection in the Ocean County Mall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

3. All branches of the will be closed today as staff undergo training. Branches, including Manchester, will reopen with normal hours on Saturday.

4. The Robert J. Novins Planetarium has two shows: "Exploring the Spring Sky" at 7 p.m. and "Bad Astronomy: Myths and Misconceptions" at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children 12 and under and OCC students. Call 732-255-0343 for more information.

5. The Waretown Historical Society Museum, 182 Wells Mills Rd., will be open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Call 609-693-5666 for more information.
