Five things to know today

Temperatures continue to climb, and today we should hit a high of 72, according to the National Weather Service. Watch out for winds, though, as gusts may be as high as 31 mph.

Here's what's happening around locally today:

1.The Shalom Book and Film Discussion Club, led by Ocean County College English Professor Dr. Ali Botein-Furrevig, will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library. This month's selection is "The Lemon Tree: An Arab, a Jew and the Heart of the Middle East" by Sandy Tolan. Call 732-657-7600 or register online.

2. Students at Monsignor Donovan High School, 711 Hooper Ave. in Toms River, will perform Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" at 7:30 p.m. Call 732-349-8801, Ext. 2499 for tickets and information.

3. Now that some warmer weather has arrived, it may be a good time to perfect those gardening skills. Volunteers from the Ocean County Master Gardener program will be at the County Connection in the Ocean County Mall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to get you started. Call 732-288-7777 for more information.

4. The County Connection today will offer assistance with consumer issues. An Ocean County Consumer Affairs Department representative will help get answers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the connection. Call 732-288-7777 for more information.

5. The Robert J. Novins Planetarium at the Ocean County College has the answer. Wonders of the Sky will be shown at 7 p.m., followed by Bad Astronomy: Myths and Misconceptions at 8:15 p.m. Tickets for the shows, which runs about an hour, are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children 12 and under and OCC students.
