Five things to know today

We've almost made it to the weekend. Temperatures are slowly rebounding from yesterday's chill as the National Weather Service expects a high of about 43 degrees today. Saturday promises to be even warmer.

Here are some things to keep in mind today:

1. The Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library has two book discussions today. At 10 a.m., the Teen Home School Book Club for ages 13-18 will discuss "As Easy as Falling Off the Face of the Earth" by Lynne Rae Perkins. At the same time, children ages 6-8 will talk about "Henry's Freedom Box" by Ellen Levine. Call 732-657-7600 for more information.

2. The library will also hold a Home School Lego Club at 11 a.m., where children ages 6-12 can build creations and make friends. Call 732-657-7600 for more information.

3. Stargazers, the Robert J. Novins Planetarium has two shows tonight: "Wonders of the Winter Sky" at 7 p.m. and "Bad Astronomy: Myths and Misconceptions" at 8:15 p.m. Tickets for the hour-long shows are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children 12 and under and OCC students. 4. The Ocean County Artists' Guild, located at Ocean and Chestnut Avenues in Island Heights will host an open mike poets meeting at 7 p.m. Call ahead at 732-270-3111.

5. Georgian Court University, 900 Lakewood Ave., is hosting "Breaking the Mold: Women Painters" at 6:30 p.m. For $37, attendees are given a multicultural dinner along with a multimedia lecture. Call 732-987-2263 for reservations.
