March 8: KinderPrep, Computer Class and Assistance Programs

Five things to know for today

We should have sunny skies today with a high near 48 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures should linger in the upper 40s all week.

Here are some local events happening today:

1. KinderPrep is tonight, 6:30 p.m. at Ridgeway Elementary School. Township residents can get information and registration forms ahead of kindergarten registration, which is held later this month. A free gift, childcare for children ages 4-12 and refreshments will be provided. Children must be five years old on or before Oct. 1, 2011, to enter kindergarten next year. 2. Looking for a career? The Ocean County Connection wants to help. From 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Workforce New Jersey's Christine Karaska will be at the Connection's Ocean County Mall office with tips on how to land the right job. Bring your resume to the Connection's office located near JC Penny's. 3. Also at the County Connection today, representatives from the Board of Social Services will be available to speak with residents about family assistance programs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

4. The Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library has a computer program for adults today. At 2 p.m., participants can come in to learn about basic internet skills. Call 732-657-7600 or register online.

5. The Ocean County College presents "Crossing Second Avenue: Molly Picon and the Mainstreaming of Yiddish Theater." The program runs from 2:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. and more information is available by calling 732-255-0400.
