March 9: Free Movie, Children's Theater and Ladies' Night

Five things to know today

Temperatures will again be in the upper 40s, though there is a slight chance of rain after 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. 

Here are some happenings for today:

1. The Surflight Theatre Company's production of "Maggie McGee and the Good Character Bandwagon" is at 6 p.m. at the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library. The family program, recommended for kids in grades K-5, teaches children the importance of being kind, respectful and helpful. Call 732-657-7600 for more information or register online

2. Internationally renowned folk singer Bram Taylor will perform at the Murray Grove Retreat and Conference Center in Lanoka Harbor. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. A donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under is asked. To RSVP, call 609-693-5558 or e-mail Murray Grove.

3. Movie theater ticket prices keep climbing. So, catch "The Town" at the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library for free at 2 p.m. or 6 p.m. The R-rated crime drama starring Ben Affleck  will be shown in the library's theater as part of their Feature Film Festival.

4. It's Ladies' Night at Charlie's Pizza. Mixed drinks are discounted $1.50 and burgers and fries are two for $10. Charlie's is located at 1980 Route 37 and can be reached by phone at 732-657-8663.

5. The Lakehurst Historical Society will be open today from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Housed in the oldest Roman Catholic Church in Ocean County on 300 Center St. in Lakehurst, the society displays artifacts from the borough's rich history. A friendly staff is more than willing to provide tours and answer questions. Call 732-657-8864 for more information.
