May 16: School Budget Vote, Pet Food Drive and BlueClaws YMCA Night

Five things to know today

It looks like our week is off to a cloudy and wet start, as predicted in our Weekly Weather Forecast. Temperatures should reach the mid-70s.

Here are some of today's local happenings:

1. The Manchester Township Council is expected to on what cuts, if any, it will make to the 2011-12 school budget after it failed during an April vote. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the municipal complex on Colonial Drive.

2. A pet food drive will be hosted at Manchester's branch of the Ocean County Library starting today and ending on Saturday, May 21. Jersey Shore Girl Scout Cadette Troop 50011 will collect items for "Paws Pantry," based at the Whiting Food Pantry at the Community Reformed Church.

3. The Brain Joggers class will meet from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., also at the library. Register online or call 732-657-7600 for more information about the interactive game and puzzle class.

4. From 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Workforce New Jersey's Christine Karaska will be at the County Connection's Ocean County Mall office with tips on how to land the right job. Bring your resume to the Connection's office located near JC Penny's. Call 732-288-7777 for more information.

5. The BlueClaws will take on the Hagertown Suns at 6:35 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. It's Ocean County YMCA Night and kids 12 and under eat free. Call 732-901-7000 for ticket information.
