Five things to know today

The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. But, skies may clear and the high could reach 86 degrees.

Below are some of today's local happenings:

1. Fallen Lakewood Police officer and Manchester resident Christopher Matlosz will be among the honorees at the 27th Statewide Law Enforcement Memorial Service held by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the New Jersey State Police and other organizations. Gov. Chris Christie will be among those attending the event at the Historic Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove at 11 a.m.

2.  will hold cheerleading tryouts at 6 p.m.

3. Georgian Court University, 900 Lakewood Ave. in Lakewood, will host "Herbs from the Garden for Everyday Healing" at the Little Teatre. A representative from Littlebrook Organic Farm and Learning Center in Howell will present herbs that can enhance everyday health. Call 732-987-2263 for more information.
