May 30: Memorial Day Commemorations

Five things to know today

Enjoy the sun, but be sure to be careful if you're commemorating Memorial Day outside — the heat index is .

Here are five local events today:

1. Manchester's Memorial Day service and parade will be held at the World War II Memorial Park located on Route 530 and Lake Road. Participants are asked to assemble at Bayonne Avenue at 9:30 a.m. to prepare to march to the monument for a 10 a.m. service.

2. Lakehurst will hold its Memorial Day ceremony, sponsored by the Lakehurst Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 124, at 1:00 p.m. The wreath laying ceremony will be held at Lake Horicon Park, near the corner of Lake Street and Church Street.

3. A Memorial Day parade will march down Main Street in Toms River at 9:30 a.m. starting at the Office Lounge parking lot and ending downtown. For more information call 732-341-2294.

4. There will be a Memorial Day Celebration at Laurita Winery in New Egypt from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The celebration will feature an outdoor concert by the Atlantic Brass Band. Information: For more information call 609-758-8000 or visit www.lauritawinery.com.

5. The BlueClaws will host the Delmarva Shorebirds at 12:05 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. Kids 12 and under eat free, plus there will be a post-game photo session on the field. Call 732-901-7000 for ticket information.
