Five things to know today

Though most of the day should be sunny with a high of 70 degrees, we may see showers after 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Below are some of today's local happenings:

1. Musician and narrator Fred Miller will present overviews of three Jewish songwriters, including a tribute to Al Jolson, at 2 p.m. at Manchester's branch of the Ocean County Library. Call 732-657-7600 for more information.

2. The Ocean County Mentoring Program would like adult volunteers to work with boys and girls ages 8 to 11. The program coordinator will be available to discuss the details at the County Connection in the Ocean County Mall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

3. Manchester's branch of the Ocean County Library has a computer class at 10 a.m. If you need help with word processing, register online or call 732-657-7600 to participate in Basic Word 2007.

4. The Hawks girls softball team and boys baseball team will each face Point Pleasant Borough at 3:45 p.m. for a home game.

5. The Robert J. Novins Planetarium has two shows: "Exploring the Spring Sky" at 7 p.m. and "Bad Astronomy: Myths and Misconceptions" at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children 12 and under and OCC students. Call 732-255-0343 for more information.
