Residents in the central Ocean County area will hear booms and thuds over the weekend, due to mortar fire training at the base, according to a release from the Public Affairs department.

The 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division from Garden City, N.Y. will conduct mortar firing training  through Sunday. The firing will stop at 11 p.m. each day of the training.

"As a result of this important training, some residents may hear more noise than usual coming from our ranges and may experience possible ground shaking," the release states. "It is important to note that noise from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions.

"The joint base works very hard to ensure training has minimal impact on its local communities. JB MDL is grateful for the overwhelming support it has received throughout the years. Base leadership values this relationship and will continue to work hard to ensure we remain good neighbors."
