Sept. 16: Library 9-11 Program, Hawks Football and Chess Club

Five things to know in and around Manchester today

1. Former New York City Police Detective Enrique Colon Jr. will speak about his 9/11 experiences at of the Ocean County Library from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

2. The County Connection today will offer assistance with consumer issues. An Ocean County Consumer Affairs Department representative will help get answers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the connection. Call 732-288-7777 for more information.

3. After winning their season opener against South Plainfield last Friday, the football team is back in action for an away game versus Barnegat high school at 5:15 p.m.

4. Players of all ages and skill levels are invited to attend the Chess Club at  from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The library asks that participants bring their own boards. Call 732-657-7600 for more information.

5. The Seaside Heights Camporee at the beach near Casino Pier opens at 4 p.m. and begins at 8 p.m. Check the Jersey Shore Council of the Boys Scouts of America website for details and fee information.
