Services for Marine Cpl. Ott Announced

Viewing, mass and burial to take place this week

Services for the Marine from Manchester who last week have been arranged, according to a township official. 

A viewing for will be held on Thursday at Saint John's Roman Catholic Church, 619 Chustnut St., Lakehurst, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, said township business administrator Elena Zsoldos.

Though handled by Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home of Manchester, the church is being used since a large number of mourners is expected, Zsoldos said.

A mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, again at Saint John's. Ott will then be buried at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown, about 20 miles west of the church, at 1 p.m., Zsoldos said.

Manchester police will provide an escort for the family to and from the services. The department's color guard will also honor Ott, according to Zsoldos.

Zsoldos said that she reached out to the Ott family to offer support, and Mayor Michael Fressola has expressed his sympathy through a letter sent to the corporal's parents. 

"We would love to put together a memorial and some type of service," Zsoldos said, adding that the township will wait until the family is ready.

A repast will follow the burial at the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department headquarters, 120 Lacey Road. Zsoldos said that a local business donated food.
