Some Relief at the Pumps for Memorial Day Weekend

Prices locally drop for third straight week

Residents of Manchester and Lakehurst will have slightly more money in their pockets after filling up this weekend, as gas prices dropped 7 cents per gallon from last week, and are now averaging $3.69 locally for a gallon of regular.

This represents the third straight week that gas prices have decreased, following a trend seen as the barrel of oil price has eased off of a yearly high of $113 a few weeks ago.

Even with the recent decrease, prices are still considerably higher than they were this time last year, causing some to change their typical Memorial Day plans.

“I’m definitely not traveling over this weekend,” said A. Johnson of Manchester while buying gas at Jersey Gas.

It’s not just Memorial Day that has been affected by high gas prices for Johnson.

“The summer I’m cutting back too... Usually go down to Maryland, stuff like that," he said. "But I’m not even going to do that this year.”

When local gas prices are compared to the national average, Manchester and Lakehurst residents come out ahead, as AAA listed the national average for a gallon of regular at $3.81 as of Friday morning.

New Jersey residents are paying an average of $3.79 for a gallon of regular, also according to AAA.
