UPDATE: Flood Watch and Hazardous Weather to Come

Mid-week storm brings hazardous weather

March 9 Forecast:

The region is currently under an "Area Flood Watch" until 7 a.m. Friday.

Light rain should begin falling around midnight tonight and continue through the morning commute. It is between noon and the evening commute when the rain will really begin to pick up in intensity.

This steady and heavy rain will continue until approximately 6 a.m. Friday morning.

This storm is armed with a tremendous amount of moisture from the Gulf Of Mexico and will be capable of dropping between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain throughout the area. There may be some areas that surpass 4 inches, but this will most likely occur on the New Jersey/Pennsylvania border.

Due to the large amount of precipitation we received last weekend, the ground is already saturated in many locations. If you live in floor prone areas be prepared for rising water levels late Thursday into Friday.

March 6 Forecast:

After Sunday’s rain system dropped nearly an inch of precipitation over our area, the skies will clear for the beginning of the work week. This will remain the case until a new system approaches on Thursday.

The rain associated with Thursday’s storm should be light through much of the day and pick up in intensity toward the evening commute. There is a concern for potential flooding in poor drainage areas.

The rest of the week should be pleasant with high temperatures in the low 50s. There may be a passing rain shower on Saturday but this will most likely remain to our north.

March is known for some wild weather fluctuations. Currently, there is a snow storm showing up on the GFS (Global Forecast System) model for March 15.

The temperatures appear to be entering a sub-freezing phase for this time period so the precipitation that is showing up has the potential to be an all snow event bringing some more plowable snow to our region. This system is still over a week away so many things will most likely need to be looked at and adjusted as this it approaches. I will provide an update for this system as the week progresses and the system begins to take shape.
