  • A section of Route 70 in Lakehurst was Tuesday afternoon after a car struck a utility pole, leaving an electrical wire down and sending the two drivers to the hospital.
  • Manchester's police department is inviting those interested in becoming full-time officers , the first stage of the hiring process.

  • There will be Ocean County health tax, if a budget unveiled Wednesday is approved following a May 4 public hearing. That translates into a $36 annual health tax bill for the owner of a home worth $300,000.
  • Contract or no contract, 143 Ocean County law enforcement employees are retroactive to April 1. Ocean County’s reluctant freeholders approved increases totaling nearly $1 million, pushing the employees up the county salary scale, although the workers in the Sheriff’s Office, Corrections Department, and Prosecutor’s Office are still bargaining for new contracts with the county government.
