Weekend Planner: Hawks Sports, Read to the Dogs and Hospital Fundraiser

Five things to know in and around Manchester this weekend

1. On Saturday, the girls volleyball team will travel to Colts Neck for a 2:30 p.m. match.

2. If your child needs a bit of help with his or her reading skills, the "Read to the Dogs" program on Saturday at the of the Ocean County Library may help. Beginner readers can hone their reading skills as a certified therapy dog listens patiently from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration for a 15 minute slot is required by calling 732-657-7600.

3. The White Pine Twig is sponsoring the eighth annual Gourmet Chefs and Designer Kitchens’ Tour to benefit the Community Medical Center Foundation on Saturday. For more information call 732-557-8131.

4. The twentieth annual governor’s surf fishing tournament will be held at Island Beach State Park at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by an awards ceremony at 2 p.m.
