Events in and around Manchester Township

Sometimes, our busy schedules can mean important local events pass us by. Manchester Patch has rounded up some of this week's best bets below:

 

Monday, Nov. 14

  • Manchester's Township Council will meet at 6 p.m. at the municipal complex on Colonial Drive. The agenda shows that the council will hold a public hearing of the municipal budget for the 2012 fiscal year.
  • The Jersey Shore Computer Club meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Thompson Room of the First Baptist Church in Toms River. This meeting will feature a presentation from Avast Antivirus Software. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Tuesday, Nov. 15

 

  • America’s Keswick ministry will host a free breakfast and fellowship for business professionals at 7:15 a.m. sharp.
  • Manchester Township High School will host a Veterans Recognition Ceremony at 2 p.m. This year’s ceremony will be dedicated to Manchester’s Marine Hero, Cpl. Nicholas Ott,  (MTHS Class of 2006)  who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Cpl. Ott died on August 10, 2011 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province.
  •  Are you new to speaking English? Join the conversation each week as current events and other subjects of interest are discussed.  New members always welcome, at the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library at 6 p.m.

 

Wednesday, Nov. 16

 

  • The Manchester Township Board of Education meets in the media center of Ridgeway Elementary School.  There is a closed Executive Session at 7 p.m. The public portion begins at 7:30 p.m.

 

Thursday, Nov. 17

 

  • Framed artwork will be displayed from 11/1 to 11/25 at the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library. Silent bids may be placed on these items.  Winners will be notified at the end of the Silent Auction. Refreshments will be served.  An auction will be held for unframed works of art and other items.

 

Friday, Nov. 18

 

  • The open enrollment period for the Medicare prescription drug program began Oct. 15. This is the time when new Medicare recipients can enroll in a Part D plan and previous enrollees can change plans if they choose. The Ocean County Office of Senior Services will be available this day at the Ocean County Connection in the Ocean County Mall. Call 732-288-7777 for an appointment.
  • At 6:30 p.m., Manchester Girls Varsity Cheerleading will compete against Monsignor Donovan at Monsignor Donovan High School.
  • Also at 6:30 p.m., Manchester Boys Varsity Football will play against Monsignor Donovan at Monsignor Donovan High School.

 

Saturday, Nov. 19

 

  • The Albert Music Hall in Waretown will host the 37th Annual PCS Anniversary & Home Place Festival show at 6 p.m. The “ Home Place" movie will be shown at 7 p.m. Live music begins at 7:30 p.m., featuring: Traditional Home Place Set, Mark Miklos, Past Times, Pickin' Shed Jam, and more bands to be announced.
  • The Doo Wop & Diamond Dinner Show featuring Joe Leo & Billy Sagarese, The Jukebox Legends, Frankie DeRosa & The Angeltones will be held at La Bove Grande in Lakehurst at 6 p.m. Ccheck out www.thejukeboxlegends.com  or www.labovegrande.net for a full list of performers. Tickets are $50 per person.
