Sometimes, our busy schedules can mean important local events pass us by. Manchester Patch has rounded up some of this week's best bets below:

Monday, Nov. 7

  • Manchester's Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. at the municipal complex on Colonial Drive. The agenda shows that the board will discuss amendments to the township's master plan. 
  • The will meet at 6 p.m. at Ridgeway Elementary School. Superintendent of Schools David Trethaway invites residents, parents and school staff to attend the informal gathering and discuss issues facing Manchester students. 
  • The Toms River Multigenerational Orchestra will perform at Manchester's branch of the Ocean County Library at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 8

  • It's election day. Manchester has a referendum question on changing its municipal elections from May to November. Lakehurst residents will elect a new mayor and two council members. 
  • The Hawks girls volleyball team will host Cranford at 5 p.m. 
  • The first marking period for Manchester students ends today.

Wednesday, Nov. 9

  • Ocean County Office of Senior Services representatives will be at the County Connection in the Ocean County Mall to help residents with their Medicare selections now that open enrollment has arrived. Call 732-288-7777 to make an appointment.
  • The Emergency Alert System nationwide test will begin at 2 p.m. 
  • Tots and Crafts will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Manchester's branch of the Ocean County Library. The program is designed for children ages 1-3.

Thursday, Nov. 10

  • Expert testimony in the controversial application for the proposed Manchester Rehab Realty facility will continue at 7 p.m. at , when traffic testimony is expected. Though meetings are usually scheduled for the last Thursday of each month, the board had scheduled November's meeting earlier to accommodate the Thanksgiving holiday. 
  • Manchester and Lakehurst schools are closed for the New Jersey Education Association convention.
  • Free blood pressure screenings are offered today by the Ocean County Health Department. Stop by the County Connection in the Ocean County Mall from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for testing.

Friday, Nov. 11

  • Manchester and Lakehurst schools are closed in observation of Veteran's Day.
  • To commemorate the day, Manchester will honor service members at 11 a.m. on the front lawn of the municipal complex. Veterans in attendance will be presented with a pin as a symbol of gratitude for their service. Refreshments will follow in the civic center following the presentation. 
  • Lakehurst, too, will commemorate Veteran's Day with a ceremony at Lake Horicon Park at 11 a.m. 
  • Players of all ages and skill levels are invited to attend the Chess Club at  from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The library asks that participants bring their own boards. 

Saturday, Nov. 12

  • Dale and Amy's Silly Songs Sing-Along begins at 11 a.m. Call 732-657-7600 for more information on program for children ages 4-8.
