Hindenburg and Lighter Than Air Exhibit

The Lakehurst Historical Society and the Navy Lakehurst Historical Society will combine efforts to display Hindenburg and other Lighter Than Air artifacts on Sunday May 6, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Lakehurst Community Center, 207 Center St.

Authors, William F. Althoff and Eric San Juan will be available for booksigning. Althoff’s book, Artic Mission: 90 North by Airship and Submarine, recounts the U. S. Navy’s penetrations of the Arctic in 1958.  San Juan’s, Barrens, Blimps and Barons, describes Lakehurst’s history which includes visionary railroad barons, innovative military advances, and quirky residents.

Items for sale will include: Signed limited editions of “The Hindenburg” over the Pine Tree Inn by Toms River artist, Francis McGinley; Airship Excursions by Zeppelin Airship; Early Manchester and William Torrey by William Dewey; Scene, Yesterday by Frank Wainwright; plus many other items.  As part of their community service award, Cub Pack 10 – Lakehurst will assist with the sale of desserts.

The Lakehurst Historical Society Museum, located across the street, will also be open during the Hindenburg exhibit hours.  Visitors will gain additional appreciate for the town’s history and its role with the military base.
